Okay, old post, but: Learning from making a mistake

What I learned here: Milk from a cow MUST BE BOILED ON THE FIRST DAY!!

Here is milk I tried to boil 2 days after receiving it. It was all stringy and thick and after being boiled I got cheese stuff and sour water?? Ergo! Boil milk from cow on first day!!! even refrigerated!!

Another thing I learned too with milk: do not put vanilla extract in milk when trying to make yogurt (refer to older entry about yogurt making). I did that...in my attempt to make vanilla tasting yogurt, and after 1 1/2 days, I still had milk...and no yogurt.
Fortunately, I decided to immediately boil the stuff (1/2 already boiled milk, 1/2 pure from the cow milk, and vanilla extract) and I ended up with perfect vanilla tasting milk. I think I killed all the bacteria with the alcohol in the extract.















Here is my knee when I SLAPPEd the mosquito While it was sucking my blood. I killed it in action and it was very satisfying....unfortunately I think I made the mosquito panic and inject or not inject what was normal. From now on: lesson learned: let the mosquitoes do their business and deal with the problem afterwords.

That thing lasted a few days longer than the normal bite. It's gone now...but I've got these bedbug bites to deal with instead.

Who wins a metal for most eaten? In Romania? which is in Europe, which is not Africa? Who'd a thought there was such a mosquito threat here?!

The start of CASR Tourist in Europe

So this will be me being a tourist in Europe, we'd better add an H- in front for Hot, just to be clear it's me. HCASR =)

Anyway, this was Tuesday when I went down to the city because I was leaving from the city at 9am the next day, so I thought I'd spend some time with Marie since she was leaving Romania soon (actually this week now) and spend some time with my language tutor, who also lives in the city.
I went to the Eco center (By the way, I was going on a trip with an Ecological center to visit other sites in Romania, they invited me to go with them the week before, and after the elections, the said it was still fine to go with them and they'd cover my costs if the Primaria couldn't. Sweet!!!) to drop my stuff off and There! Found out that Wednesday, was really meant JOI! Joi = Thursday!
Ergo, I learned make sure to understand times and dates in both languages and not to assume that the other person is getting all their translations right.

SO! I spent an extra day with Marie, and helped her clean her apartment before she left the country, I helped a tiny bit really.

This hot toots showed me that you can make root beer from mineral water!! I did not believe her at first, but wow!! It was like a Miracle!! Romanians don't like it though I'd heard, they think it tastes like meds. Only us Americans do.

I mentioned crazy random thunder/lightning storms here, with pouring rain. I tried to take pictures for you Katie!! They were across the sky!! But I couldn't catch ANY!! Here are a couple attempts =(

And here of course...mosquito bites. I got 11 that night in Galati, the 2nd night I was covered with repellent and got 1. Those ankle ones suck. At the moment, I get bitten quiet often and it's a good thing there's no malaria here. I could put repellent on all the time, but it's too hot to do that.

Quick housekeeping advice for RO

Here is how toilet paper looks like here: This is one of the cheaper types. It does NOT absorb. My advice, if you're coming to visit, bring your own roll. If you're moving here, just know that you'll have about 2 uncomfortable weeks to get used to the situation.


I've had these socks for a while now, and I've always walked a lot, but for some reason...maybe it's the way they're being dried, but I have holes in 4 pairs!! of socks!

So far I've been told in Mastacani that they aren't any....tantari [zah-n-zahhr-eee] (mosquitoes)

BUT: look what I saw outside my window today!

I saw a movie in the Cinema in Ploiesti.
It was Stardust =D
I saw this movie with Calvy and my cousin and her BF.
I like it, and I got 5 others to go with me too! The theatre was huge! but it smelled like it isn't used often. It was pretty cheap too. 7 ron = a train ticket, a pack of orbit gum, a taxi ride for 4km, or...2 beers.
